Rogue Signal: Build the Rogue Valley Mesh

Lineup

About This Event

When the fiber is cut or the cell towers go down, how do you reach your neighbors? This group is building the answer: a community radio network across the Rogue Valley that runs on LoRa, a long-range, low-power radio that needs no internet, Wi-Fi or cell signal. Robert Quattlebaum and Ben started the network, and nodes are already on the air. Help them grow it. Sessions alternate: \\\\\\\\- \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*Build\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\* (Nov 14, Dec 12): assemble a LoRa repeater or gateway from a kit, to put at your home or on your property. \\\\\\\\- \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*Bring Your Device\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\*\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\* (Nov 28): bring a supported off-the-shelf radio. We'll flash the right firmware, set up the app on your phone, and get you on the network. You can buy a parts kit to build in the session or a pre-made kit, or order a supported device through White Rabbit so you know you have the right gear. The network is a backup channel for emergencies, especially for CERT volunteers and other first responders. As it grows it can carry weather and environmental sensors, giving the whole valley useful local data. Drop in to any session.
